What is a Sound Bath and Why Should You Try It?

Everything is vibration. When we are healthy and happy, we have a harmonic vibration. Our body vibrates in its natural frequency. Through trauma, stress or other experiences in our body and our organs, other vibrations arise that aren’t our natural state. In a sound bath, we can bring our own frequency back into balance. We sat down with sound healer Irina Sterna to find out more about this powerful experience…

What happens during a sound bath?

In a crystal bowl sound bath (also known as sound journey or sound healing), we can relax our minds and reach that timeless place where we can re-enter our natural peaceful state of harmony. This process is similar to meditation or other types of relaxation. These high frequencies help “reset” our bodies to a balanced state by bringing coherence to each and every one of our cells. In a Sound Bath, it is so easy to relax and let go, the vibrations and sounds have an effect on our mind and body on the deepest level. A Sound Bath is like a deep, energetic massage for our body, mind and spirit. The body becomes weightless. The emotional, physical and mental self finds its own natural state of balance again. Deep relaxation, regeneration, and healing can be experienced. 

What exactly happens to your brain? 

Sound baths initiate a shift of your brainwave state and balance the hemispheres of the brain. Through frequency and entrainment with sound it's possible, and very easy, to down-shift our normal beta state (normal waking consciousness) to alpha (relaxed consciousness). Most of the people are able to reach theta (meditative state) and also delta (where internal healing can occur). This experience is helpful for anyone who wants to give themselves a moment of relaxation or gain the benefits from meditation, but has not yet learned how to access on their own.

How will you feel after your first sound bath?

After the first sound bath, most people feel very calm, relaxed and harmonious. Everything feels harmonious. You can expect to sleep really well that night and wake up feeling full of energy and restored. Some will experience this state of relaxation after visiting several sound baths, this is so different from person to person and also may change depending on your current life situation.
