SWEAT WITH STEPH

Don't let her sweet smile fool you, Steph's Power Yoga classes will make you sweat, and her deep Yin can only be described as intense! 

FIT-FOCUSED QS:

What is your go-to breakfast on a busy morning? Water to hydrate, and oolong or matcha tea. I don't eat before teaching/practising yoga, but afterwards I like to enjoy overnight oats or chia pudding topped with fresh berries, hemp seeds, flax seeds and cacao nibs.

What's your best strategy to stay motivated? Do what you love, and incorporate movement into your everyday life! Morning yoga with friends, dancing at open-airs, swimming in the lakes or handstand practice... all things that are really fun and yet still involve movement. When I need motivation for specific or long-term goals, visualisation is really powerful. The Year Compass is a great way to set intentions and plan ahead. Once your goals are written down, they're in your subconscious, and you'll magically start seeing the right opportunities to make things happen. The universe (almost) always provides.

The best thing we can do for ourselves after a workout is… Stay in that focused headspace. At the end of your yoga class for example, take a couple of minutes (before talking or checking your phone) to sit and be still... and enjoy that blissful feeling! Our clearest thoughts often come to us in that moment.

Is there a special dietary regime you follow? What changes have you seen or felt since you have started it? Plant-based for over four years, and loving it. I've noticed clearer skin, more energy, less sleep needed and much more creativity in the kitchen! I also try and eat organic and seasonally where possible - better for our bodies and the planet. It's the same way we eat on our yoga retreats, and guests seem to love it. The green smoothies are always a huge hit!

What are your 3 yoga poses to do at home? I always do a supine twist first thing in the morning, a really nice way to wake up and re-align the spine after sleep! Sphinx pose, while I'm working on my laptop - which is a great way to stretch the front of the body, and activate the stomach and spleen meridian. And reclined hero's pose, I find it so relaxing.

What are your tips to have energy all day? Drink tea! I drink bowl tea as part of my morning meditation, which is not only calming for the mind, but a great way to hydrate your body. I'll be teaching some yoga + tea meditation workshops at BECYCLE in September... keep an eye on our events schedule!

What's your favourite motivational quote? This mantra, shared by a good friend: I am love, I am light, I am at one with the universe.
